AIM for Wellness
A groundbreaking programme supporting Mental Health, confidence & rehabilitation through diving
Why This Programme Is Needed
There is currently nothing like AIM for Wellness anywhere in the world—a programme that combines adaptive scuba diving with structured personal development, targeted specifically at individuals facing major barriers to wellbeing, education, and inclusion.
The need is urgent and underserved:
Over 2 million people in the UK live with a limb difference or severe physical restriction.
Around 1 in 4 adults in the UK experience mental health challenges each year—over 16 million people.
Approximately 1,500 people undergo amputations annually in England alone due to trauma, illness, or medical complications.
A growing number of young people are disengaged from traditional academic systems, often due to complex needs, learning differences, or adverse life experiences.
Many individuals—especially those from inner-city, low-income, or geographically remote areas—are financially and logistically excluded from diving, despite its well-documented wellbeing benefits.
AIM for Wellness addresses these gaps directly. It delivers targeted support, one-to-one coaching, and inclusive training to those who need it most—providing a transformative experience that blends aquatic freedom with personal growth.
The course is delivered by Disadvantaged Diver, a new UK charity currently in the process of being formally established. The organisation’s mission is to remove the barriers—physical, financial, psychological, and social—that prevent people from accessing the life-changing benefits of diving. Through charitable funding and partnerships, the charity will ensure that no one is excluded from the underwater world due to their circumstances.
